One of my absolute favorite artists is Keith Haring (1958 — 1990) and I have loved him since the ripe old age of thirteen (or sometime in those junior high years). His social artwork inspired by the street culture of New York City in the 1980s has always been phenomenal in my eyes. In 1990, Haring died of AIDS related complications. But now The Keith Haring Foundation (established in 1989) assists AIDS-related and children’s charities, and maintains the largest resource of archives about Keith Haring and his art. So you can imagine how excited I was to see screen prints of Herings work on the Urban Outfitters website for their new collection with OBEY. But for those not so keen on Urban Outiftters, the Keith Haring Pop Shop has a wide range of products, from clothes to iPad covers, to condoms (now sold out) in order to promote safety and reducing the spread of AIDS. I also love the iPad case that is for sale from the Guggenheim store. I love the inspiration and the message that comes from Haring’s work and I love being able to have the chance to wear such incredible art.
